14 Days Ura Mask Dance Bhutan Festival

14 Days Ura Mask Dance Bhutan Festival

Sketch Itinerary

The 14 days Ura Mask dance Bhutan festival is an annual festival held in the Ura valley in Bumthang which is known for its famous dance called the “Ura Yakchoe”. A sacred relic is displayed for people to receive blessings. According to legend, an old woman sitting outside her house was visited by a lama asking for a glass of water and when she came out with the water offering, the lama had vanished leaving behind only a sack. So out of curiosity, when she checked the bag she found a revered statue that is now displayed annually at  the festival. This relic has been passed on from generation to generations and is still owned by the descendants of the woman till today.
