The 10 Days Paro Festival Tour in Bhutan is one of the biggest festivals in the country. On the first day, all mask dances are held inside the courtyard of Rinpung Dzong. In subsequent days, the courtyard outside the dzong hosts the festival. Paro Tsechu is one of the most popular Bhutan festival and a major tourist attraction from around the world. The Paro Festival a yearly occasion held each spring and is the most prominent display of the world’s greatest Thangka or Thongdrel in the whole of Bhutan.

Detail Itinerary for 10 Days Paro Festival Tour in Bhutan:

Day 01. Arrive Paro (Altitude 2280 m) (By Druk Air flight):
Your Guide from Yak Holidays will receive you at the airport and drive you to the Hotel.

  • Ta Dzong (built in1656 and renovated in 1968)
  • Rimpung Dzong (literally meaning “Heap of Jewels”).

Dinner and overnight in Tashi Namgay Resort or similar. www.tnr.bt

Paro:

Day 02. Paro – Thimphu (Altitude 2320 m, (Distance: 54 km, 1 hr drive).

  • Excursion to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest)
  • Kichu Lhakhang, built in 659 A D
  • Drukgyal Dzong built in 1647, now in ruins

In the evening, drive to Thimphu. On the way, view Tamchog Monastery built by Thangthong Gyalpo.

Thimphu: 

Day 03. Thimphu Sightseeing: (Altitude 2320 m).

  • National Memorial Chorten (1974)
  • National Library
  • Painting School
  • Traditional Medicine

After lunch,

  • Royal silver smiths
  • Bhutanese paper factory at work
  • Tashichho Dzong
  • Handicrafts Emporium.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel Migmar or similar.

Day 04.  Thimphu Sightseeing: (Altitude 2320 m).

  • Folk Heritage Museum.
  • Textile Museum.
  • Changangkha Lhakhang.
  • Philatelic office.

After lunch,

  • Hike to Cheri Monastery
  • Largest statue of Buddha in the world.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel Migmar or similar.

Day 05. Thimphu – Punakha: (Altitude 1310 m) (76 Km, 3 hours drive).

  • Dochula – You can see the higher Himalayas, if the weather permits
  • Royal Botanical Park at Lam Pelri.
  • Chhimi Lhakhang – dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kuenley also known as “Divine Madman”.

After lunch,

  • Punakha Dzong – Built in 1637, by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to serve as the religious and administrative centre of the region.

Punakha: 

Day 06. Punakha – Gangtey: (Altitude 3120 m) (Distance: 67 km, 3 hrs): After breakfast visit to:

  • Ruins of Wangdiphodrang Dzong razed by fire in 2012, (from outside) built in 1638; under construction now.
  • Gangtey Gompa – Gyaltse Pema Thinley, the grandson and mind reincarnation of Pema Lingpa founded the Temple in 1613, and Tenzin Legpai Dhendup.

After lunch,

  • Explore Phobjikha valley, famous for the Black Necked Cranes during winter.

Dinner and overnight at the Theckchen Phodrang Guest House or similar

Day 07. Gangtey – Paro (2280m) (Distance: 197 km, 7 hrs).  After breakfast, drive to Paro.  Lunch on the way. We then drive to Paro and transfer to Tashi Namgay Resort or similar.

Day 08. Paro Festival (Festival Day 01). After breakfast, you will witness the Paro Festival. It is a good time to meet the local people in their finest costumes. This is a special time for the local people to relax and also a time for prayer.

Dinner and O/N in Tashi Namgyal Resort or similar.

Day 09. Paro Festival (Festival Day 02): In the morning, you can witness the festival.

After lunch, you can drive to Chelila pass (3800m) which is the highest motorable road in Bhutan. On a clear day, you can see Jumolhari Mountain and Jichu Drake bordering Tibet.

Dinner and O/N in Tashi Namgay Resort or similar.

Day 10. Departure: (Altitude 2280 m) Early morning, drive to Airport and Farewell.
